two cigars and a glass of wine...
Last nite I went to the Rotary club's 25th anniversary gala. It was quite amusing so I thought I'd tell you guys about it. First, I wasn't invited, but I was made to go last minute becuase my uncle didn't feel well. So, at first not knowing that I was going to a Rotary club gala, I was underdressed. Now here comes the phun stuff. When I got there, I felt like everyone there was wearing their money on them. Why you might ask? Let's say that the Rotary club is a club for the social elite, and oops, I forgot, it's a gentleman's club. So all the wives there were dressed up like there was no tomorrow (sort of to one up the other club wives). Beads, sequins, minks, furs, diamonds as big as marbles, you name it, they got it. The scary thing was that these ladies (who are of their early 50's) were wearing really trendy/revealing items that did not seem to fit them. Trust me, TOO MUCH FLESH was revealed that nite. Imagine a highschool formal, switch the young ppl with old ppl, subtract some more fabric on the women's clothing and add some fur, you have the rotary club gala. These ppl are as giddy as highschool kids. Mind you, none of my fam is in the club, we just got invited as guests to help donate some money for their charity fundariser.
Anyhoos, after going to an event like this, I now know what really wealthy ppl do with their spare time. All the wives of the club members did charity work, learn to ballroom dance and sing. How do I know this? The evening consisted of each important member singing with the live band. I felt like I was in some old geezers karaoke bar. They also had certain couples come out and show the new dances they learned so everyone can cheer. To top it off, almost every other man was smoking a cigar. *cough cough* I think inhaling that stuff for 4 hours, I basically smoked 2 of them myself.
The evening was interesting, though next time, my mum decides to pull me into one of these events, I'm definately not going. I think I have shortened my life span by atleast 2 years because of all the pollution and cigar/cigarette smoke I've been inhaling in HK. Bah! *cough cough*
