the BBQ...
The weather wasn't too bad today, but from where we had the BBQ it was slightly breezy and standing outside for 2 hrs or so didn't help either. My fingers and toes were so numb! We all tried to keep warm by hovering around the stove that was heating the hot apple cider and hot chocolate. I should mention that the stove was one of those ancient black stoves. It was really kool, it was the wood burning kind of stoves, you know, the ones where you have to the pots over the holes after you remove the iron flat thingie? Well, anyways, we tried to hover around the thing to keep warm. I kept filling my cup with a bit of hot chocolate just to keep my fingers moveable. By the end, my fingers felt lethargic and I could barely tie up the hot dog bun bags. At the end of the BBQ, we had to split up the left overs and I took some burger patties to feed my cousin. I made him come with me to school cause he was so lazy at home. At least he was sitting inside the building and not standing outside in the cold AND I brought him food so he wouldn't go hungry.
The good thing about the BBQ today was that we could socialize with other students in the freezing cold and have some school spirit. We ended up making old fashioned buttermilk pancakes on the big iron stove just for the volunteers too. Hehe. You know you are dealing with science students when you have a beaker full of maple syrup sitting on the stove.
After today's BBQ, I will remember not to do a BBQ in winter weather. Not that I ever would, but the numbing feeling in my toes and fingers today will always remind me why I don't like to spend too much time outdoors in the winter weather. I have one word for winter weather, "brrrr..."
